Normalcy & Lack Thereof

I'm posting this picture so you can know my shame.

This is a fur bunny left behind by the one and only Memphis, surrounded by a desert of dust that was once my hardwood floor.

I wish I could say this was unique situation, and that the rest of my floor didn't look like this. But then I'd be lying. And my momma didn't raise no lier.
(For my sake, please re-read that last sentence with an Alabamian accent thankyouverymuch).

Allow me to explain.

Sometimes life can get so busy and so hectic that you find yourself saying things like 'wow, it's been forever since I've been home' as you wash some two day old dishes at midnight. When in actuality you just can't remember being home lately. Because the time you've spent at home has consisted of your face + pillow = total and utter pass out, followed a few short hours later by a sleepish trod to the shower and a barely awake, wet-headed walk to your car to get started with your next day.

Sometimes life gets filled to the brim with beautiful and unmissable time with your family as you celebrate the life of a precious family member. Everything they said and did that affected your life in an intensely positive way is reminisced about, and frankly, nothing else matters in those moments. Because the beautiful imprint they made on your life, and on others, is so cherished and deserves the most heartfelt celebration.

Sometimes, you can feel a little run off your feet. Because even with beautiful time spent with family and friends and a work life that you cherish and are elated to see progressing in an amazing way, things can still feel a little overwhelming at times.

What I'm trying to say is that sometimes, sometimes can happen. And everything you'd ordinarily work on to keep normalcy just a truckin' along in this life you're building, goes flying out the window. And instead, you start cruising on autopilot. But it's a sweet kind of autopilot. where priority number one is a focus on the people you love. and then a focus on doing what you love. and then, after all that, other stuff can be crossed off the list. like sweeping your floors, for instance. or finally drying that load of laundry you've washed four times, because you keep forgetting about it. things like that.

For the last several weeks, we've been in sweet kind of autopilot mode around here. it's been necessary, and important, and fortifying. thankfully though, I think I see a little normalcy on the horizon.

that's right people.

Ima get my swiffer on real soon.

  2. This makes me feel okay about my totally dirty home. I have dustballs everywhere that I'm just now cleaning up! Hardwood floors can be the hardest sometimes! But it's summer and enjoying this time with my son is more important than the multiplying dust bunnies. I swear they are the fastest reproducing animal ;). Great post to help remind us what life is all about!
