I ♡ target

But who doesn't, right? Us Canadians may be a little late to the Target party since they only graced us with their presence within the past year but oh, the love affair has been swift, all-consuming and passionate. Since moving into our new home (and mayyyyybe during the four months we were in between homes) I've been frequenting Target pret-ty often. I can't help myself! Their home decor items are fantastic and suit so many different tastes. 

I'm a big believer in the high/low philosophy when it comes to decorating our home. I definitely believe some items are worth splurging on. Whether it's a one-of-a-kind piece or something that will be used often that needs to look great for many years to come (read: well built/comes with warranty/known for it's longevity), I see the value in sometimes spending more for quality. At the same time, I'm the first person to shout from the rooftops that I LOVE a bargain! If it can be thrifted, DIY'd or purchased frugally, well that's the kind of home decor I get most excited about. And the Target goodies we've acquired in our home so far have been exactly that. Fun and practical accents that make me smile and didn't break the bank. I'm thrilled with these side tables and the large hollow glass lamp I purchased a couple weeks ago. I love their fun lines and light, airy feel. They're a happy landing spot for my morning coffee without making the room feel cluttered or smaller than it needs to feel. Same goes for the hollow lamp. It's substantial where I felt the room needed a chunky light fixture, but the eye looks through it, further reinforcing the open airy feel of our living room. 

And don't think this is the extent of my Target hauling so far. Oh no. Like I said, Target and I are in a whirlwind romance which requires more pictures and gushy declarations of thrifty home decor love than we have time for today. More posts to follow, since you know, I just can't help myself.

Matchy Mirrors

Quite a while ago, I stumbled upon two mirrors on clearance at Winners. At first, I didn't know what to do with them. I loved the shape and the price.

But they were different finishes. Neither of which I was fond of. 

So what's a girl to do? 

Spraypaint!! Yessiree! And did I ever have a good time spray painting these beauties. Sure, a rogue bug or blade of grass found its way into almost every sticky coat of high gloss white pray paint I applied. Nothing a little sanding and repainting couldn't fix though :)

I'm super happy with the end result. The high gloss white looks great against the wall. I love how a new coat of paint has done wonders for the original frame and bones these mirrors always had. I mean before, I could hardly tell they had such delightfully sculpted edges. Now, thanks to the glossy white, those edges are on full display!

Currently, the mirrors are situated above one of the love seats in our living area downstairs. They reflect the kitchen beautifully and definitely make the whole room feel bigger.

Overall, I'm thrilled with the way things turned out. Lesson learned? Spray paint is awesome. Always has been, always will be. 

I have a feeling spray paint and I are going to have a long, healthy and very pretty future together.

Kijiji Kronicles...

Ok. The second I typed that, I thought... Kardashians. Sad but true.  Everything K, and K alliterated, they've taken from us.

But that's another topic for another time. 

Right now I'm talking Kijiji Chronicles.  Here's the deal. I found this little coffee table on Kijiji for $15 last summer. Regretfully, I didn't take any pictures of it in its before state.  But essentially, it was a simple, cherry stained, wood coffee table.  I wasn't fond of the color but loved its lines. 

So, I decided to paint it!  The whole process was super simple.  I just sanded, primed, painted and distressed. Here she is being primed.

When it came to choosing a color, I decided to go with basic white. I've been so inspired by the many white-out furniture makeovers I've seen that I decided to try my hand at that method. This was my first attempt, and I think the painting process totally reclaimed this once dated piece.  

I scuffed the heck out of the legs, and corners of the table. I love the character it added to the piece.  And, now, every time I wack this poor little table with my vacuum and scratch or dent it, I don't feel bad.   Cute + Functional = Total Win.

The table itself has several dings and dents from its previous life.  And thats totally cool. It only makes my scratches and scuffs more believable. 

Now can I get a hallelujah for a coffee table that doesn't require coasters or TLC?! Go ahead... just slap a hot drink right up on top or a pair of tired feet that need some rest after a long day.  She's game.

Thats what I call a hard working, low maintenance, effortlessly and naturally beautiful little lady!

Hmm... I guess this post wasn't about the Kardashians at all, really.
